Welcome to The Husker DNA Essay contest! The Husker DNA Journey is inspired by The DNA Journey (see Let's open our World). The DNA Journey is “a short non-fiction film … about the importance of breaking down boundaries” by having persons from different parts of the world take a DNA ancestry test, share their findings, and learn how much they have in common (for more see: Let's open our World - The DNA Journey). The Husker DNA Journey will recreate this illuminating excavation of DNA ancestry for students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) who come from different groups in the U.S. and from different nations in the world.

This essay has four parts (see below). Your final essay should total at least 700 words but should be no longer than 1000 words.
NOTE : Kindly do not exceed word limit. Else, you will not be able to submit form.
*PART 1 : ABOUT ME: Please write about your national and ethnic/racial origins. Please include information such as where you grew up, where you went to high school (how big and diverse was your graduating class), how long you have been a Husker, and what you have chosen as your college major(s) and/or minor(s). If you have yet to choose a major and/or minor, please include what you intend to choose as a major and/or minor. (up to 250 words).
*PART 2 : ABOUT MY ANCESTRY: Please tell us what you know about your ancestry. Please try to go back, at least, as far as your mother’s parents and grandparents and your father’s parents and grandparents. It may be helpful to talk to your family members and find out what they know about your family’s ancestry and heritage. (up to 250 words)
*PART 3 : GROUP FUN: If selected, you and 24 of your peers will take a Husker DNA journey together. You will each take a separate DNA test (paid for by the Husker DNA organizers) but learn your results together. You will also participate in a symposium where you will share the results with other Huskers and participate in a discussion of ancestry and what it means to you as an individual. In addition to this symposium, what other fun activities would you recommend for the participants of the Husker DNA journey. (up to 150 words)
